About

I am a designer and a maker.

I sew, chip carve, work with wood and clay, and weld. I have a BFA in furniture design from Kendall College of Art and Design (and a B of S in Crim Just, but that’s a whole other thing). I need to work with my head and hands to feel whole, and I know it's right, because my heart feels good.

I started making lamps because I could not find a wide but shallow lamp with a rectangular lampshade. You see, being a designer is both a blessing and a curse. One develops a particular aesthetic, I knew what I wanted - the blessing. But, I also know how things are made and how much it costs to make them - the curse. The few lamps that I did find (and loved) were always way out of my price range, even though they were mass produced in Asia, and topped with a mass produced paper or styrene shade. So I decided to make lamps, (and then when I realized the shades that I need didn’t exist, I learned to make those too) and my lamps would be handcrafted, made one at a time, be beautiful, but still affordable. I hope you agree.

My lamps are made with substantial materials. I don’t have to add weights to the base.

My shades are welded by myself, sealed to prevent rust and are all fabric. No styrene or paper.

The wood is solid and locally sourced. Depending on the wood, I will use lacquer or shellac, never polyurethane.

The ceramic bases are slab rolled and hand assembled then high fired to cone 6. Not all of the glazes I use are food safe, so please do not lick them...

And although my lamps are not UL Listed (to receive that certification is about $10,000 for each lamp) the sockets and cords are UL Listed, and the utmost care is taken to wire each lamp.

If you see something that you like, and would like me to make another, or make changes to something you do like, just let me know, and I would be more than happy to make another or something just for you.

I hope you enjoy the things in my store as much as I enjoy making them.
